About the Kiwi Access Card Photo

The Kiwi Access Card is an ID type for those in New Zealand to prove that they have reached the age of 18. If you want to apply for a Kiwi Access Card, then you must be able to prove that you are over 18 years old at the time of your application. To qualify for the card, you need a form of identification, such as a Photo ID or birth certificate, and a declaration from someone who is eligible to state that you are over 18. To apply for Kiwi Access Card, you will also need proof of residence at your address and a passport-sized Kiwi Access Card photo.

Documents needed to apply for a Kiwi Access Card:

  • Two color photos of yourself that fulfill official requirements;
  • Proof of the address you want your card delivered to;
  • A photo ID as proof of identity;
  • If you do not have a photo ID, you may use other identifying documents, which may be: Birth certificate (showing full name, date of birth, place of birth, and parent's names, ages, and areas of birth; Confirmation of Residence Permit issued by New Zealand Government; Certificate of NZ Citizenship; Certificate of Identity (issued under the Passports Act 1987).

Well, now that you know, you must hold any of the NZ photo IDs listed above when applying for the card. If you do not use a photo ID to apply, you will then need an identifier statement in your application form.

Regarding the Photo Requirements

As stated above, you must give the official two identical color photos that are less than 6 months old, most importantly, meet the listed requirements. To help you to avoid some of the most common problems with photo quality, we have collected some basic requirements below:

  • The photo must be in color;
  • The photo size must be 35 mm in width and 45 mm in height;
  • The photo must be no older than 6 months;
  • The background must be plain and light;
  • Glasses are allowed. However, the frame must not cover any part of your eyes and there is no glare on the lenses. Note: dark or tinted glasses are not permitted;
  • You can wear a head covering for religious or medical reasons. Your full facial features must be clearly visible. You cannot wear head accessories for any other reason;
  • Your photo must be in focus. Balance the lighting and color, not too dark or too light;
  • There must not be any shadows on your face or behind your head;
  • “Red-eye” effect caused by flashlight in photographs is not acceptable;
  • Keep your facial expression neutral and look straight into the camera.

The checklist above will remind all of the photo requirements you need to know for your application. If you fail to meet the requirements that you are required, the application will be delayed.
